Brew Dog is a Scottish brewery that recently started distribution in St. Louis. This is a stout aged in Scottish whisky barrels from the Glen Moray distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland.
There is a hot alcohol aroma to this beer, with only a hint of dark roast malt. The color is a as black as can be without any light shining through. The head pours thick and has good retention.
This beer has a complex flavor, starting with a malty roasted grain flavor of a stout. There is also a pronounced alcohol flavor that is warmer than expected but not over whelming. Along with the alcohol flavor there is an strong oak wood taste for the barrel aging the beer went through. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy like a good stout. The finish is a little hot from alcohol, but similar to a scotch.
This is a fine beer for someone who like scotch, the alcohol flavors are too strong for the average beer drinker. The base beer of a stout works well with the alcohols and flavors from the scotch barrel.
