#301 Abita Ale - Turbo Dog

Abita Ale is made near New Orleans, and was highly recommended by a friend of mine who went to school at Tulane.

This beer has a chocolate malt smell mixed with a hint of earthiness. The color is a very dark brown with some dark red shining through when held to light. The head is light brown and thick with good retention.

The taste is malty and chocolaty with a hint of roasted malt. There is a slight floral hop flavor, but a light overall hop flavor and bitterness. The mouthfeel is full and smooth. The finish is a little sweet and malty.

This is a pretty good beer. The bottle mentions dry hopping but I am not getting much hop flavor or aroma. This beer came from the same store as other beer with suspicious qualities, I know dry hop flavors will decrease with time, this beer might have some age on it.

I have to say that I drink a wide variety of beer and I love contrasts, when it comes to my beverages of choice. I love a good Guinness, but am known to toss back a lawnmower beer on a hot day.
BY FAR, the utility belt of beers, for me, is ABITA TURBO DOG ! I get the full flavor, but it's very easy to drink. Alot of beers that have a full pallet are hard to get REALLY COLD and aren't that refreshing to drink - with the TURBO DOG exception. The best of both worlds !
