#36 Chimay Ale - Blue
The Chimay box set came with a glass as seen in the pictures that I have been using for all the beers. The glass has a large opening that allows for good smelling of the beer and nice over all presentation. I really like this heavy goblet and I plan to use it for future beers.
Again with the yeast smell, and slight hint of dark malt maybe a little coffee. This beer has a different smell from the others it's a tart and bubbly smell a slight ticking of my nose. This beer has a very dark color with only a little head. But bubbles are coming up from the side and collecting at the edges.
Yesterday's Chimay was described as effervescent when talking about the mouth feel. This beer I think effervescent dominates the taste and mouth feel. There are little bubbles bubbling all over my tongue with ever sip. The beer starts malty sweet with slight coffee notes and a light hop spicyness, but with all the bubbles it finishes extremely dry.
I think this beer could be appropriately bottled like Champagne since it has so many bubbles. To me the effervescentes of this beer is taking away from it. I am not a big fan of Champagne which is what this beer reminds me of and this could be taking away from my enjoyment of this beer. I am not calling this beer undrinkable, I would just prefer a lot less bubbles.
As I finish the Chimay series I can say I drank them in order of enjoyment for most enjoyed to least. I loved the first beer, the triple, it was by far my favorite with the most unique taste, good flavor, and great thick head appearance. The Red was a fine beer and the blue I just am not crazy about. I will try drinking more groupings of beers. It makes it easy to pick out each day, and gives a good set of comparisons.
