#222 BBC - American Pale Ale

More beer from BBC.

This beer has a nice hoppy aroma, with fruity citrus being the predominate smell. The beer is an amber red color and clear. The head is very thick and sticky covering the sides of the glass as it slowly works its way down.

This is a very dry APA, with little to no residual sweetness. Even though the malt does not impart any sweetness there is some biscuit notes. The hops are the strongest flavor to this beer with, floral and citrus flavors and very little bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin and smooth, and the finish is lightly hoppy.

This is an enjoyable beer. I would like some more sweetness, but it isn't a big problem. This is a beer that I would happily drink any day.

This sounds a lot like the BBC crafted Shelltowee IPA (which you still need to try). The sweetness is down and the hops are up. I think a side by side tasting is called for.

Thanks for the review. I've been all over the country, and this is the best APA (and maybe best "pale ale" period) in the country, imho.

There's another brewer in Louisville called Brownings that makes a "hot" (ie, "high alcohol)IPA called "She-Devil Pale Ale."

It's also very tasty.

I can't stand this beer.. it's so bitter... I haven't been able to bring myself to buying another BBC because of it.

My neighbor just brought some over while we changed his oil. Oh man... What a wonderful drinkable Pale ale. Not as intense as Sierra Nevada which was perfect for quenching the thirst. Very enjoy able. Grapefruit and hops! Love it! By the way anon.. a pale ale is usually bitter. I thought it was well balanced, fruit flower and hops like a pale ale should be
