#278 Corsendonk - Abbey Brown Ale

Corsendonk is named after the Priory of Corsendonk in Oud-Turnhout which comprised a large brewery and malt house. The Priory was founded in 1398 and closed in 1784. The brand as it is now was introduced in 1982 by the Keersmaekers firm in Oud-Turnhout.

This beer has a malty earthy aroma with a hint of alcohol. The color is dark brown with red highlights and just a bit of light passing through. The head is not very thick but has enough retention to keep the top covered in foam.

The taste is malty with some grain flavors and a bit of sweetness. There is a bit of Belgian clove spice and there is another spice flavor that might be from wild yeast. This beer also has a little alcohol warmth not over power just enough to know it is there. The mouthfeel is full with plenty of carbonation. This beer has a malty clove spice finish.

This is a really good beer, there is no overpowering taste just a few subtle flavors. The wild yeast, maybe horse blanket flavor is really nice in this beer.

#277 Boulder Beer - Hazed and Infused

This beer has a rich hops aroma, with piny and grassy notes. The color is a medium brown that is too cloudy to see through. The head is very thick with good retention. This beer initially opened and fizzed over just like yesterdays, they have both been kept is a cool fridge and came from the same store, makes me wonder about the store.

The taste is very hop forward with distinct pineapple flavors and floral notes. The malt flavor is a very like sweetness giving most of the taste to the hops. There is only a slight bitterness for such a large amount of hop flavor, not surprising for a dry hopped beer. The mouthfeel is full and well carbonated. The beer finishes bitter with a hint of hops.

This is a good hoppy beer, lots of great hop flavors without much bitterness. This is a good example of what a well hopped beer should taste like.

#276 Atlanta Brewing (Red Brick) - Peach Tree Pale Ale

This beer fizzed over when opened, normally a sign of a bottle that has wild infected yeast, or a bottle that was over filler or had too much sugar added at bottling. Very strange for a beer outside of home brew.

The aroma of this pale ale is very hop heavy, lots of floral and citrus hop flavors. The color is a light yellow or amber with a hint of hazy. This beer pours with a thick head of foam, but it quickly fizzes away to a light covering.

This beer has a hoppy bitter taste with a hint of malt. There is a slight malt sweetness, but it is overwhelmed by the huge bitter taste and with a slight hop flavor. The bitterness is so strong my mouth is water and there is only a hint of hop flavors. The mouthfeel is full with plenty of carbonation, and the finish is bitter and dry.

I am not impressed with this beer, too much bitterness and not enough hop flavors.

#275 Great Divide - Titan IPA

The label on this beer describes it as "Brewed for hop disciples", I really enjoy some hops so this sounds like a fine beer for me.

This beer has a strong hop aroma with floral and fruit notes. The color is a reddish brown, or honey color and very clear. The head pours thick and white, with moderate retention.

The taste is very hoppy with plenty of bitterness making my mouth water. The hop flavors are grass and floral, and the bitterness seems to match well with the flavor. There is not much malt, just a little sweetness to give the hop flavors some backbone. The mouthfeel is full and rich. The finish is bitter and dry, but not overly.

This is a fine beer for anyone who likes hops, could use a little contrast, but still lots of good hop flavors. This might be a good beer to age, all the hops should give the beer a long life.

#269 Atlanta Brewing – Red Brick Ale

Sunday June 1st.

The aroma is malty with caramel and toffee aromas. The color is a dark reddish brown with only some light getting though. This beer has a very thick head with great retention lasting long after the initial pour.

Red Brick Ale has a large malt taste, with distinct tannin and grain flavors. This beer is dry with some hints of roasts grain and caramelization of grain. There is no hop flavors except for some bitterness. The mouthfeel is full giving the beer plenty of body. This beer finishes dry with some bitter hints of roast.

This is an alright beer, lots of malt flavors, but over all too dry for my taste.

#273 Highland Brewing Company - St. Terese's Pale Ale

This Pale Ale has a floral hoppy aroma with a hint of honey. The color is a medium brown like dark honey, and very hazy. There is little to no foam on this beer, but there are some bubbles coming up from the side.

The taste is a little malty with some grainy notes and a hint of tannins. There is some hop flavor with a piny and floral flavor. There is a mild amount of bitterness that is keeping with the whole beers overall light flavored theme. The mouthfeel is medium with plenty of carbonation and the finish is clean with a hint of bitterness.

This is a fine beer, not a lot of great thing, but nothing bad. This is pretty much what a Pale Ale should taste like.

#271 Wellpark Brewery - Tennent's Lager

This beer is a called the Budweiser of Scotland, it is common in pubs and stores. It's also a light lager like Budweiser.

The aroma is mildly hoppy with some lager chalky notes. The color is straw and clear as expected from a light lager. The head pours thin and quickly fizzes away to almost nothing, but there are still plenty of bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass.

The tastes is slightly malty sweet with an accent of honey and a little graininess. There is a pronounced bitterness that tastes a little like hops. There is a hint of green glass skunk but it is so slight it just adds another dimension of flavor to the beer. The mouthfeel is thin and light. The finish is crisp with some bitterness.

This is a pretty good beer, for such a commercial beer. There is a little flavor mixed in with an overall clean taste. I am really impressed, I like this beer more than I expected too.
